Feature Video: Stand Up Paddle FOIL Surfing in Hawaii
There has been a lot of buzz on the water lately about the introduction of the foil to stand-up paddle boarding. With Kai Lenny on his Naish (video), and Connor Baxter and Zane Schweitzer on their Starboards (video) it is no surprise that others are following suite.
Foil technology, however, has been around for quite some time. The first foil board was created to tow behind the boat by surfer turned water skier Mike Mack in 1993. Laird Hamilton then brought the design to tow in surfing (video), and since, both wind and kite surfers have used the tech to bring higher speeds and control to their sports.
It was only a matter of time before foils hit the stand up community. With so many companies taking the plunge, the 2016 season promises a wide range of foil-ready boards. One such company, F-One, hopes to expand their foil collection and start the summer season off with a bang!
We have been involved in kite foiling for the past 4 years during which we have gained a lot of knowledge in this highly technical field. But we are also a SUP brand and we used to be windsurfers originally. This is why our expertise can apply on all three types of gear, KiteFOil, SupFoil and WindFoil.
For the first time, the riders of three different water sports can share the same feelings and the same language! Even more surprising, they can also share the same foils or boards.
Keep an eye out in the coming months as Covewater is expected to get the first pre-series and samples from F-One.
