Meet the Staff

 Olivier Guincetre

Salut, I am Olivier.

I am the owner of Covewater Paddle Surf. Originally Leslie and Scott Ruble created the shop in 2005. At the time stand up paddling was only popular in Hawaii. Thanks to them the sport and the sup community started to grow significantly in Santa Cruz and the Bay area. I was at first, just a passionate paddler and a regular customer at the shop before becoming friends with Scott. Soon later he asked me if I would share my passion as a sup instructor and in the shop doing sales.

In March 2015 the transition was made and I jumped into a new venture. For this I am grateful and wish Scott the best as he follows his new path, while offering me this amazing opportunity to buy and operate Covewater, the first shop fully dedicated to stand up paddlers.

I spent most of my life in the mountains on two wheels in the French Alps but I always had a passion for the ocean and surfing. I was a professional mountain biker racing around the world for over 15 years. In 2003 I took a break from bike racing after a major injury and I left France for a 12 month bike/surf trip in British Colombia. My passion for bicycles and surf led me to Santa Cruz in 2004. I followed my dream of being part of the Santa Cruz bike and surf community. I was working in the bicycle industry and it is in Santa Cruz that I discovered stand up paddling. This amazing new experience in the ocean gave me so much that it became a new way to enjoy being outdoors.

My goal is to have the Covewater team promoting the sport and offering customers the best equipment they need.
We are passionate about stand up paddling, and sharing this experience in the gorgeous Monterey Bay with new friends is our most rewarding experience.

From experienced paddlers looking for the latest in high performance equipment to novices looking to try this super-fun sport for the first time, we look forward to meeting you and welcoming you into the Covewater family!

Meggan Wenbourne

General Manager

Hi! I’m Meggan or Meg,

as the paddling community has dubbed me. I’m the General Manager at Covewater Paddle Surf. Generally you’ll find me behind the scenes most days working from my computer- talking to our vendors and customers near and far and handling our scheduling and bookwork, etc.

I’m originally from a small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains called Murphys about 3 hours east of Santa Cruz. I moved here for college and besides a short stay on the islands, decided Santa Cruz was paradise and I did not want to leave.

I am an avid SUPer, climber and mountain biker among many other outdoor activities! I first started SUPing when I lived on the Big Island of Hawaii after college- I found it very soothing and loved the height it gave me to look at wildlife below. After dabbling in racing, I have decided this sport will continue to be a part of my life in many different capacities- both in salt and fresh water.

If you don’t see me at the shop, chances are I’m on the water on some sort of vessel, on the trails or in the mountains. And if you don’t find me there, I’m probably at the nearest taqueria eating a burrito and talking about adventures with friends.

Stop by and say hello anytime you’re in the neighborhood; it’s always great to meet fellow paddlers and adventure enthusiasts!

Keith McConnaughay

Shop Manager

My name is Keith McConnaughay,

I’m the shop manager here at Covewater aka the guy who will talk your ear off about gear whenever you come in the shop (;

I’m from all over. I was born in Japan, moved to the US when I was 6 years old and have lived all over the states with my last move planting me in Santa Cruz 6 years ago.

I have been an avid Whitewater kayaker since I was 13 which is what initially got me into SUP and the reason I moved to California. Living in santa cruz didn’t give me many river options close to home but stand up caught my eye as something to cross train with. It has since become a bit of an obsession taking me all over the state racing and meeting all the wonderful people of this community.
